CD Album - A Bournemouth Love Affair

This is an essential CD for those who love the music of Enescu or the art of Constantin Silvestri. It is known that Silvestri was the greatest interpreter of the music of his countryman, and the performance of the 1st Symphony is simply unrivaled, a few imprecisions in the orchestral execution notwithstanding.
One can also hear a brief work written by Silvestri himself, his folk-influenced Three Pieces for Strings. The interpretation has the same intensity as Silvestri’s reading of Vaughan Williams' Tallis Fantasia. Silvestri's magic also shines throughout the rest of the CD. The best sources for the tapes have been used; the sound is comparable with that of the Silvestri releases from the BBC Legends series. A winner. Amazon 5 Stars
An extraordinary history
In 2009, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of Silvestri’s death in London pianist Anda Anastasescu and journalist John Gritten produced this unique memorial CD set with Silvestri conducting the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. Chance has played a significant role in its creation. Many of the concerts conducted by Silvestri in Britain were broadcast by the BBC. Tragically, a lack of archive space led to the destruction of the master tapes and there the story would have ended but for Silvestri himself.
Hidden away within the archive of the BSO were 350 reel-to-reel tapes that that the maestro himself had made at home, from BBC radio broadcasts.
Following his death, his widow had presented the tapes to the orchestra and there they had lain forgotten. A chance re-discovery of these led to the involvement of Raymond Carpenter, Silvestri’s former principal clarinettist. For twenty years he has dedicated himself to the task of rescuing these remarkable recordings, alongside Silvestri enthusiast, American Glen Gould from Silicon Valley, California, who has worked to digitally re-master the recordings. It has been a labour of love and this double CD set is a testament to their success.
The set was recorded in the 1960s in the Winter Gardens, Bournemouth and Colston Hall, Bristol. They include major works by George Enescu and a unique gem: Silvestri conducting his own work, Three Pieces for Strings.

CD - A World of Music

A delightful rendition of Mozart's Piano Concerto K414 by pianist Anda Anastasescu and three folk-inspired pieces by Constantin Silvestri. His 'Three Pieces for Strings' are full of vigour and culminate in a finale of stunning percussive velocity.
The Strad
A memorable adventure and the sound of friendship
This is the first commercial CD that brought to light Silvestri’s work Three Pieces for Strings. The recording took place in October 1990 in Bucharest’s Athenaeum concert hall, where the London Schubert Players gave the work’s first public performance since 1958, when Silvestri left the country and performances of his works were forbidden.
The LSP was the first British orchestra to tour Romania after the 1989 Revolution and they brought the stunning work back into the concert repertoire.
During their concert tour, the orchestra also performed the work in a large orphanage in Iasi, bringing delight and excitement to 800 disadvantaged children.
